KES Pupils become young amassadors for children's hospice south west

A new initiative for KES has seen five Year 12 pupils join the Young Ambassadors Programme run by the Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW). Their goal is to raise awareness of the charity in the Bath area and to fundraise for the Hospice.

Ahmad, James, Danny, Olavi, and Dina all applied to join the Programme and were interviewed prior to being selected as Young Ambassadors. They then had to present their plans to support the Hospice in a ‘Dragons' Den’ style presentation.

With their plans approved by the ‘Dragons’ - representatives from local businesses, Hamptons, Goughs, and Credim Coaching - the KES Young Ambassadors are now working to support a charity abseil event organised  by St John’s Church, Keynsham on September 12th & 13th in aid of CHSW. Some are even taking part in the abseil challenge itself, while others are helping to run stalls, promote the fundraiser, or provide musical entertainment at the family event.

While Young Ambassadors are tasked with raising awareness of the Hospice and helping to fundraise, participating in the scheme also enables them to gain experience in organising events, presenting, and working as part of a team. Additionally, it provides an understanding of how a not-for-profit organisation operates.

Heidi Roberts, Area Fundraiser for Children’s Hospice South West, said: “It is great to see Year 12 students on the Programme develop their interview and presentation skills. They speak with great passion about our cause, and the tour of Charlton Farm hospice really inspires them to raise awareness of Children’s Hospice South West. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the KES cohort over the last couple of months, and I am sure this year’s cohort will inspire students who join Year 12 to become part of the programme in September.”

The Children’s Hospice South West cares for children with life-limiting illnesses and their families. The Hospice cares for over 520 families in the South West and needs to raise over £14 million a year.
