King Edward’s Junior School is located on our North Road campus to the east of the city. The School provides an engaging and ambitious education for children aged 7-11 years old. Pupils enjoy a rich and stimulating academic curriculum, supported by a robust pastoral system, alongside an enviable range of co-curricular opportunities.

Our main entry points for the Junior School are Year 3 and Year 5, however, there are often a small number of places available in both Year 4 and Year 6. Whilst most children join us at the start of the academic year in September, we can admit pupils in-year, subject to availability.

Please take a moment to read our Junior School Entry Guide and FAQs below. If you have any further questions, or would like to book a visit, please do get in touch with our Admissions team.

JUNIOR SCHOOL ENTRY GUIDE

STEP 1: GET IN TOUCH
Contact the Admissions team to discuss availability and arrange a visit to the School. Our main Open Morning takes place in September/October each year, with a second event in February. Individual tours are also available throughout the year.
STEP 2: APPLY
Parents will be invited to complete the Online Application Form, which must be accompanied by a £100 non-refundable application fee.
STEP 3: ASSESS
Children will be invited into school to sit age-appropriate assessments in Maths, English Comprehension, Creative Writing and Non-Verbal Reasoning (NVR). The main assessment morning takes place towards the end of January each year, with further assessments taking place in the Spring and Summer Terms, subject to availability.
STEP 4: OFFER
The School will contact families to advise whether we can offer a place. When making an offer, the Head of the Junior School, Mr Sean Price, will consider the child’s performance in the assessments alongside reports and references from their current school.
STEP 5: ENROL
If an offer is made, a contract will be issued. A place will be confirmed by the School once all paperwork has been returned and a £500 deposit paid. Please note that this deposit will be deducted from the child’s final account upon leaving King Edward’s School.

frequently asked questions

What are the entry requirements for joining the Junior School?
All children joining the Junior School will sit assessments in Creative Writing, English Comprehension and Maths. These assessments are based on the National Curriculum, so will relate to work your child has already completed at their current school. Additionally, all children take a Non-Verbal Reasoning (NVR) Test, which assesses innate ability and identifies children with untapped potential. It is not necessary to practise in this area, but we do send out a familiarisation paper on receipt of a completed application.
Can my child come for a taster day at the Junior School?
We do not offer taster days, however, all children joining in September will be invited to a ‘move-up morning’ during the Summer Term prior to entry. This is an opportunity for them to meet their new teacher and classmates and familiarise themselves with the School prior to starting.
Do you offer wrap-around care?
The standard Junior School day starts at 8:40am and finishes at 4:00pm. Children are welcome to arrive for supervised play from 8:00am. At the end of the day, children may join after-school care provision from 4:00pm to 6:00pm.
Do you offer financial assistance for entry to the Junior School?
Unfortunately, we do not offer any financial assistance for entry to the Junior School, although pupils can apply for bursaries, scholarships and awards for entry into Year 7
