The academic results gained each year by our leavers help to rank King Edward’s as one of the leading schools of its kind in the country and one of the top performing schools of any kind in the south-west of England.

Our Sixth Form pupils enjoy access to a wide range of school facilities, including exclusive use of the newly refurbished Sixth Form Centre, which boasts a café and social spaces alongside designated areas for independent study and group work.

Pupils in Year 12 currently choose from around 30 A Level subject options. In addition to their core studies, pupils can also participate in a wide range of co-curricular activities, take on leadership roles, do work experience and go on educational trips both in the UK and abroad.

Please take a moment to read our Sixth Form Entry Guide and FAQs below. If you have any further questions, or would like to book a visit at our Senior School and Sixth Form, please do not hesitate to contact our friendly Admissions team.

SIXTH FORM ENTRY GUIDE

STEP 1: GET IN TOUCH
Contact the Admissions team to arrange a visit to the School. Our Sixth Form Open Evening takes place in September/October each year, with individual tours also available throughout the year.
STEP 2: APPLY
Parents will be invited to complete the Online Application Form, which must be accompanied by a £100 non-refundable application fee.
STEP 3: ASSESS

All pupils wishing to join the Sixth Form must meet the following minimum criteria:

  • GCSE/IGCSE grade 4 in English Language and Mathematics (preferably grade 6 or above)
  • A minimum of 54 points taken from the best 9 subjects (including English Language and Mathematics). Short courses and grades below 4 are not counted.
  • It is also strongly recommended that pupils gain GCSE/IGCSE grade 7 or above in the subjects they have chosen for A Level or in allied subjects for A Levels not studied at GCSE (e.g. Physics for Electronics, History for Politics etc)

The Sixth Form Interview morning takes place in the November preceding entry. Pupils will have interviews with a Senior Leader or Sixth Form Tutor and two subject teachers.

STEP 4: OFFER
The School will contact families to advise whether we can offer a place. When making an offer, the Headmaster will consider the pupil’s predicted grades, performance in the interviews, school reports and references from their current school.
STEP 5: ENROL
If an offer is made, a contract will be issued. A place will be confirmed by the School once all paperwork has been returned and a £500 deposit paid. Please note that this deposit will be deducted from the child’s final account upon leaving the School.
