 Supporting elite sporting pathways at kes

Many congratulations to the following KES pupils who through the course of this term have played, or been newly selected for national, academy and regional performance pathways in the various major sports played at KES.  

These include two selections to the U16 England Hockey Squads, 15 players within the Bath Rugby, Bristol Bears and County pathways, 10 netballers selected to represent at national level (U17 Wales) through to the Team Bath and Avon County pathways, and 13 cricketers playing at Wiltshire and Somerset County level as well as representing Somerset and Glamorgan EPP programmes.

Commenting on their selection, Mrs Gwilliam, Director of Sport at King Edward’s School, said: “We are absolutely thrilled that the potential of so many of our talented athletes has been recognised by an impressive number of high-performance pathways. The players’ selection is a significant milestone in their development and here at KES we are delighted to play our part in supporting their ongoing potential through our specialist coaching team across the School’s major sports.”

“As our academy region and catchment has grown our school partnerships have become an essential factor in our ability to support player development. By building close relationships with schools like King Edward’s School, Bath, and working with their experienced and professional coaching team, led by Sean Lilley, we can ensure that the right individuals are identified, supported and challenged appropriately as they progress through the academy pathway. KES have embedded a school rugby pathway that is aligned and supportive of the academy philosophy and aims, creating a weekly programme and playing opportunities that maximises players development. “Congratulations to the athletes at KES who have been selected into the Team Bath Netball Pathway.  The Team Bath Netball Pathway is a recognised part of England Netball’s Player Pathway and aims to create accessible elite netball opportunities across the Southwest region. We have received record-levels of interest in our Player pathway opportunities this season, and trials were incredibly competitive. We are looking forward to working with the athletes from KES and supporting them with their development as aspiring netballers.” Nat Roddy, Team Bath Academy Head Coach.
