Learning for life programme welcomes speakers to school

Last month we welcomed internationally acclaimed speaker and educator Leo Powell to KES to speak to both our parents and our Year 10 and 11 pupils about the issues of County Lines. This harmful activity, where vulnerable children are groomed for drug-related activities, is rife across the UK and is being fuelled by social media. Leo urged our pupils to be critically minded and vigilant online.

In addressing contemporary social issues such as this, King Edward’s offers support to pupils and parent in the following ways:

  • Clear and strong support pastorally from Tutors, Heads of Years and Heads of Sector.
  • Access to counselling services within school and from outside agencies such as ‘Off The Record'.
  • A modern and reflective Learning for Life programme that often sees expert speakers coming in to speak to both pupils and parents.

Having already spoken to parents and to our Year 13 pupils this year, mental health awareness expert, Iain Mahony, will return to school after Easter to deliver his talk ‘What About the Boys?’ to Year 10 pupils.  This talk addresses topics such as toxic and positive masculinity, issues which have been very publicly highlighted in the much talked about recent Netflix drama, Adolescence.
