yEAR 12 cAREERS MENTORING EVENT
The inaugural Year 12 Careers Mentoring Event proved to be a memorable evening of insight and inspiration for our Sixth Form students, and Holbeche was buzzing with a sense of professional possibilities and pathways.
More than 40 professionals from a wide range of industries visited the school to share their experiences, top tips and pathways with pupils in intimate pods of conversation. Each Year 12 student was given a tailored programme for the evening, consisting of five bespoke 20-minute sessions that best matched their current passions and future aspirations, making connections and being inspired.
Mrs Rees-Roberts, our Careers Education Coordinator, worked tirelessly to find expertise from myriad industries across the professional sphere: artificial intelligence and technology, biotech, creative arts (from architecture to screenwriting), consultancy, engineering, finance, entrepreneurship, law, medicine, veterinary science, dentistry, the third sector, and so much more!
While most career events consist of one or two speakers, or focus exclusively on one particular niche, it speaks to the wonderfully eclectic range of passions among our Sixth Formers - and how seriously we take our responsibility to provide them with support for whatever future they covet - that such an event could prove so successful.
There was an extraordinary and diverse array of talent and experience available to our students and we are hugely grateful for all those in our immediate community and beyond who gave up their evening to give our students such a unique and enriching opportunity.
Luke Benedict - Head of Sixth Form
I found the mentoring evening was an enlightening experience for me, providing insight into the world of engineering at both university and as a career, and I was truly inspired by the mentors' own impressive career achievements.”
Sixth Form Pupil
I especially enjoyed the opportunity to ask questions to professionals in the fields that were tailored to my interests. I felt that it not only developed my understanding of what career I might want to follow but also made me aware of the diversity of different ways to get there, as well as introducing me to many jobs related to my interests that I hadn't previously considered.”
